WATCH: Newark Poet Allen Ginsberg is Subject of Feature Film 'Kill Your Darlings'

The award-winning film focuses on the college-years of the Newark-born artist.

Kill Your Darlings,” released Wednesday, centers around Newark native Allen Ginsberg’s time at Columbia University in the 40s; his developing relationships with Lucien Carr, Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs; and the subsequent scandal surrounding the 1944 murder of teacher David Kammerer.

Daniel Radcliffe portrays Ginsberg, one of the iconic figures of the Beat Generation of poets and artists. 

The film helmed by first-time director, John Krokidas, is currently in limited release in New York and Los Angeles.

Ginsberg was born in Newark, raised in Paterson, and briefly attended Montclair State University before landing at Columbia. He is best known for his epoch poem "Howl."
