ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — He spent nearly two months in the hospital, including a harrowing 32 days hooked up to a ventilator. But earlier this week, Andrew Crooks got a rousing cheer as he moved on to the next phase of his recovery from the coronavirus.

On Monday, Crooks, a corrections officer at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, was discharged from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset.
