More than 100 flights at Newark Airport were cancelled due to the "anticipated weather conditions" on Tuesday, officials stated

NEWARK, NJ — Predictions of a winter storm in the New Jersey area slammed the brakes on more than 100 flights at Newark Liberty International Airport on Tuesday.

More than 100 flights at Newark Airport were cancelled due to the "anticipated weather conditions," Port Authority officials stated at 7:30 a.m.

Several hours later, the cancellations had climbed to 176, officials reported.

“Travelers should confirm flight status with their airline as more disruptions may occur once the wintry mix (snow and sleet) move through the NY/NJ region,” officials said.

On Monday, Newark city officials reminded residents that Code Blue status – which is called when temperatures reach 25°F or lower without precipitation or 32°F or lower with precipitation – will continue throughout the predicted storm and "as needed" into the future.

Due to inclement weather, the Newark Public School District were closed on Tuesday.
