Family Jumps Out Third-Floor Window to Escape Blaze

A mother and her five children were forced to jump out of a third-floor window when a fire broke out early Wednesday morning in their Newark apartment.

A ranking member of the Bloods street gang, already imprisoned for life, was sentenced to an additional 300 years Wednesday for the murders of four people, including a 13-year-old girl, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said in statement.

The bridge at Bridge Street was locked back into position around 6:30 pm Tuesday, a few hours after the structure got stuck in its open position, creating a headache for rush-hour commuters.

The Newark Police Department's Major Crimes Unit is working in conjunction with the Newark Board of Education as they investigate the stabbing Wednesday of a 17-year-old Barringer High School student.
