NEWARK, NJ — Tired of rain, flood warnings and ugly weather in Newark? It may get worse before it gets better, forecasters say.

Newark and other parts of New Jersey are still reeling from this week’s winter storm, which dumped several inches of rainfall across the Garden State and prompted flood warnings. Roadways in the area have been soaked with the deluge – leaving some drivers stranded – and local rivers in Essex County have been seeing troubling spikes above their flood levels.

The good news? This weekend may bring some rays of sunshine to the area – literally.

The bad news? Things are likely to get wet again on Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Hazardous Weather Outlook and a Flood Watch are in effect for the area until Saturday morning.

Here is the NWS’ latest weather forecast for Newark:

Friday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 48. North wind 7 to 9 mph becoming east in the afternoon.

Friday Night: Rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 1am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Temperature rising to around 52 by 5am. Breezy, with an east wind 9 to 14 mph increasing to 19 to 24 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 46 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 7am. Mostly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 46 by 5pm. Breezy, with a west wind 11 to 16 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 31. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Breezy, with a west wind 16 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.

Sunday: A slight chance of rain showers between 1pm and 4pm, then a slight chance of snow showers after 4pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 21.

Monday (Martin Luther King Day): Partly sunny, with a high near 31.

Monday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25.
