2. New Brunswick Approves Tax Break for $175 Million Middlesex County Office Project (jerseydigs.com) — New Brunswick's city council has approved a 35-year tax break for a $175 million Middlesex County office building on New Street, boosting projected annual city revenue from about $65,000 to at least $1.2 million. The eight-story project, near the Joyce Kilmer House, will consolidate 14 parcels and could start construction work sometime in 2026, continuing developer AST's major building streak in the city.
3. Rutgers Historian to Explore the Hungarian Refugee Crisis of 1956 at New Brunswick Free Public Library (tapinto.net) — New Brunswick residents can learn how thousands of Hungarian refugees from 1956 passed through nearby Camp Kilmer and ultimately settled in the city at a free program on Sept. 19 at the New Brunswick Free Public Library. Rutgers historian Jim Niessen will explore this little-known Cold War chapter and highlight New Brunswick-born Tracy Voorhees, who led the national resettlement effort.
4. 17 New Jersey colleges make Time's first Best Colleges list (njbiz.com) — Rutgers University in New Brunswick has been ranked No. 157 nationally on Time's new America's Best Colleges of 2026–2027 list, one of 17 New Jersey schools recognized. The ranking emphasizes student outcomes, learning environment, and how attractive each campus is to applicants, giving local families another data point as they weigh college options close to home.
