Whisper is a social media app that allows you to talk to people, but they do not know who you are. The Whisper app's core value is to savor anonymity. This is important because Whisper is supposed to be a place where one can truly be themselves. If someone is judging the user based off of who they are, how are they supposed to express themselves freely?
Having anonymous communication allots to many questions such: "Is this a place where I can say what I want, not get penalized for it, and feel safe?" or one may argue, "Why would I want to share my business with people I do not know?"
Throughout my experience with using Whisper, I can answer these questions honestly and objectively. Yes, Whisper 100% is a place in which one can say what they want and not get penalized for it. And yes, posting to people whom you don't know can be daunting.
A user recently posted, "Sometimes I feel like I'm failing horribly as a mother and wife..". After posting that, over 74 users responded back to her with words of support and advice. I feel that if she were to say that in a public domain in which people knew it was her, she would be greatly frowned upon or scrutinized for whatever actions have caused to her to believe this. However, on Whisper nobody knows who she is. She was able to let those heavy words out of her heart and seek advice without anyone changing their viewpoint of her.
The thought of posting to the world anonymous is scary thought. You may think, one may not care what you have to say or what's the point. I have learned that there is always somebody on Whisper that cares what you have to say. And the point of posting your private thoughts should definitely be the feedback you will receive. Or even the "hearts" you will get. Knowing that someone in the world agrees with you is a very liberating experience. Personally, it provides me with a sense of closure. It makes me feel great that there are thousands of other students struggling over midterms, or watching Full House at the age of 20 is their secret obsession too.
Escape your user profiles, screen names, and profile pictures and enter into the world of Whisper; where you can finally be you.
