The shop will again donate 50 percent of that day’s gross sales to Elijah’s Promise in support of its fight against hunger.

“Dunkin’ Donuts has been part of the New Brunswick community for over 10 years, and this event is an opportunity for me to give back to the community that has supported my businesses,” said Sid Mody, owner of the Dunkin’ Donuts location.

“Elijah’s Promise has done a remarkable job of providing meals to the needy 365 days a year. By raising awareness as well as funds, I hope to support Elijah’s Promise in its mission of ending hunger in the New Brunswick and Middlesex County community.”

Jim Zullo, Executive Director of Elijah’s Promise, said funds raised that day will help support the organization’s Community Kitchen on Neilson Street, which provides nearly 100,000 meals annually to persons in need.

Zullo noted that the support is especially needed now. The Community Kitchen has seen a significant increase in demand for meals over the past several months

“We are extremely grateful to Sid Mody and for generously sharing the proceeds from his Dunkin’ Donuts location on George Street that day with Elijah’s Promise. We hope folks who live or work in the city will patronize this location on Tuesday, and in doing so, support Elijah’s Promise and those in need in our community.” said Zullo.

In addition, city businesses or institutions are encouraged to have “dough-raiser” breakfasts and coffee breaks that day in support of the effort. All large orders of donuts, bagels, coffee and other menu items may be ordered a day ahead for pickup on April 12 by calling the George Street location at 732-246-2070, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Last year’s “dough-raiser” made more than $4,000, supporting over 1,400 meals. It was held at two locations owned by Mody, including the New Brunswick train station, which is currently closed for renovations.

Elijah’s Promise harnesses the power of food to help fight hunger and poverty in the community. In addition to its Community Soup Kitchen, it operates the Promise Culinary School, which provides professional training to under- and unemployed individuals.
