Autistic Boy, 9, Left On School Bus For 4 Hours, Police Say

Breaking: When the bus got to the Piscataway school Thursday, the child was never helped off. He sat alone for four hours, police said.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A New Brunswick school bus driver has been arrested and charged with leaving an autistic 9-year-old boy on a school bus for four hours, the Middlesex County prosecutor's office announced Friday. After the boy sat on the bus alone for hours Thursday, the bus driver then realized his error and quietly took him back to his house — without telling his parents what happened, the prosecutor said.

The incident happened Thursday, Oct. 12. Hardy Sannoh, 60, of New Brunswick was arrested and charged that same day with endangering the welfare of the child.

Sannoh is a school bus driver employed by Accurate Transportation in Piscataway.

Investigators determined that the boy was picked up by Sannoh to be taken to a Piscataway school at 7:40 a.m. Thursday. However, he was never escorted off the bus upon when they got to the school. No aides were assigned to the route.

The boy remained on the bus by himself, unattended from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. After 1 p.m., he was returned home by Sannoh without parental knowledge, police said.
