CEDAR HILL PREPARATORY SCHOOL Honored as 2017 National Blue Ribbon of Excellence!

Cedar Hill Preparatory School has received the prestigious honor of being named a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, with the distinction of being the only New Jersey school to receive the National Blue Ribbon Award as an Elementary/Middle School…and as one of four Middle Schools in NJ who received this 2017 National Blue Ribbon Award.
On Thursday afternoon, September 28th, the entire Cedar Hill Preparatory community gathered in the gym to await the announcement of winners by U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos. When Ms. DeVos announced that CEDAR HILL PREPARATORY SCHOOL was selected as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School, the cheers were deafening! The pride and devotion of the Cedar Hill Preparatory community was quite evident. It became quite an emotional experience as CEDAR HILL PREPARATORY SCHOOL joined this distinguished group of 279 public and 50 private schools who received this honor.
“National Blue Ribbon Schools are active demonstrations of preparing every child for a bright future,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to the honorees. “You are visionaries, innovators and leaders. You have much to teach us. Some of you personalize student learning, others engage parents and communities in the work and life of your local schools, and still others develop strong and forward-thinking leaders from among your teaching staff.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award honors private elementary, middle, and high schools where students perform at very high levels. Private schools are nominated by The Council for American Private Education (CAPE).
National Blue Ribbon Schools are on education’s cutting edge, pioneering innovative educational practices from professional learning communities and project-based learning to social and emotional learning and positive behavior systems. Nominated schools complete a comprehensive application about school practices. Schools may be nominated as Exemplary High Performing—among the top schools in a state—or Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing—schools making the fastest progress in their state in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
Cedar Hill Preparatory School has been acknowledged in the “Exemplary High Performing Schools” category in which schools are recognized among their state’s highest performing schools, as measured by state assessments or nationally-normed tests.
Now in its 35th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed recognition on more than 8,500 schools. On Nov. 6-7, the Secretary and the Department of Education will celebrate with these honorees at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.School officials will represent CEDAR HILL PREPARATORY SCHOOL at this awards ceremony where they will hear Secretary DeVos and other esteemed educators share best practices with each other and celebrate their hard-won achievements.
