Join Raíces directors and ensemble members in this interactive, hands-on workshop Saturday, September 24, 1-3:30 PM at Raíces Cultural Center. Participants will learn the basic rhythms, chants and movements used to celebrate and honor the force of nature and energy of Oyá, while learning the cultural history of the Orishas.

ABOUT OYA
In the Afro-cuban tradition of Ochá, Oyá is the Orisha, or force of nature, associated with the whirlwinds, hurricanes, tornadoes, storms, change and transition. The volatile, powerful warrior energy, or ashe, of Oyá is often a force of destruction clearing the way for change, new growth and rebirth.

Oyá is also the gatekeeper of the cemetery. She watches and guards the doorway between life and death, deciding who enters and who leaves.
