The Zimmerli Art Museum and the Department of Art History at Rutgers invite the university community and general public to attend De-Facing the Portrait, Four Roundtable Discussions. These discussions examine the elastic boundaries of portraiture as a genre in art history. Respondents from the science, medical, and art fields provide a cross-disciplinary approach that appeals to audiences with art, as well as non-art, backgrounds. Sylvia Yount, Chief Curator and Louise B. and J. Harwood Cochrane Curator of American Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, is the keynote speaker. All panels take place in the museum’s Lower Dodge Gallery and include lunch and a closing reception. Attendees can sign up for the morning or afternoon session, or the entire day. The program is free, but reservations are required by e-mailing rsvp@zimmerli.rutgers.edu by April 27. Space is limited.
