The Smile - Arturo Cubacub (Chicago, Illinois)
Reminiscent of Warhol’s Screentests, this short film focuses on a woman’s enigmatic smile. 2012; 3 min.
Pasolini's Last Words - Cathy Lee Crane (Ithaca, New York)
Known as one of Italy’s most important filmmakers, Paolo Pasolini was, first and foremost, a writer. Combining staged and archival material, this poetic biography considers Pasolini’s brutal murder in 1975 alongside the texts he published or left unfinished during his last year. Those include the polemical articles on the front page of a Roman newspaper, his unfinished novels, and earlier writings published just days after his death. Indebted to the biographical films of Isaac Julien, filmmaker Cathy Lee Crane cultivates an impressionistic form of biography that seeks to penetrate into what Pasolini himself called “the material presence” of poetry. In Italian and English, subtitled. 2012; 61 min.
HyperLightness ad absurdum - Margarida Sardinha (Torres Vedras, Portugal)
A deconstruction of geometrical structures reveals their inherent divinity. 2011; 25 min.
