Trip: Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Fairmount Park Houses

In 1886, while living in Paris, Vincent van Gogh dramatically altered his manner of painting landscapes and still lifes. Dominated in the foreground by close-up views of grasses, wheat sheaves, or tree trunks, these canvases are a detailed study of nature and suggest a concern with representing the sensory experience of being outdoors.

The Fairmount Park Houses

Considered among the most significant architectural examples of eighteenth- and early-nineteenth-century homes in the United States, the Fairmount Park Houses perfectly illustrate the styles, furnishings, and domestic lives of the time, providing visitors with a unique glimpse into Philadelphia’s rich cultural history.
