A man who was kicked off the Rutgers football team has been charged with murder in what is being called a revenge killing, authorities said.

A former Rutgers player has been charged with murder in what is being called a revenge killing, authorities said.

Lester "L.J." Liston Jr., 22, faces charges in Michigan of first-degree murder, felony firearm, possession with intent to deliver cocaine less than 50 grams and careless discharge of a firearm causing injury or death, according to MLive.com.

Liston is accused of gunning down Larry James Dunn on July 30 in Flint, according to the report. Dunn, 44, was found at 11:37 p.m. at Roselawn and Cloverlawn drives suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

A 30-year-old woman was also injured in the shooting, according to the Genesee County, Mich. Prosecutor's Office.

Liston was a former Scarlet Knights linebacker who was dismissed from the team in March 2015, according to nj.com. Liston was held out of the first two practices of training camp that year because he failed the preseason conditioning test, according to the report. He was also suspended for the fourth game of the season for failing to meet the team's study hall requirements.

Liston was a standout football player at Grand Blanc High School in Michigan and graduated in 2012, according to the report. He attended Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Via, before accepting a scholarship at Rutgers.
