Fire Tears Through Rutgers Frat House Friday Morning
Sixteen students were asleep inside when the fire broke out at 8 a.m. Friday. The cause of the fire was electrical.
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — It was a Rutgers fraternity house that was badly damaged by a fire Friday morning, and had students sleeping inside at the time:
"At approximately 8:00 a.m. on the morning of December 15, a suspected electrical fire broke out in the attic of Zeta Beta Tau’s satellite residence on Huntington Street, just off the Rutgers College Avenue campus," wrote organizers on this GoFundMe for the fraternity. "It quickly engulfed the entire building."
News 12 reported the roof collapsed and also that sixteen students were inside when the fire broke out. However, everyone got out safely and there were no injuries.

"We are fortunate to report that everyone quickly evacuated the premises, and none of our brothers sustained any physical injuries," read the GoFundMe.
The building is privately owned, said a Rutgers spokeswoman. She said all the students who lived there are safe and have been provided shelter at Rutgers.

However, that housing is only temporary, said the fraternity.
"All 16 students are currently left scrambling for spring housing, as the house is not recoverable," said the fraternity.
