Fourth of July Salute

Celebration of George Washington's "feu de joie" military salute to the 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence and the June 1778 American Army victory at the Battle of Monmouth.   Several re-enactors, portraying members of the 2nd New Jersey Regiment, will perform the feu de joie ("fire of joy") maneuver, which took place on July 4, 1776 on the banks of the Raritan River.  City Historian George Dawson will explain the occasion's significance. Attendees should bring lawn chairs.  For more information, contact Dawson at 732-249-2670.
