Gun Advocates Rally at Rutgers University

Rep. Frank Pallone was among the speakers at Wednesday's event.

Democratic Rep. Frank Pallone was among a number of speakers who spoke out during a rally for gun control advocates at Rutgers University on Wednesday, nj.com reports.

He quoted a statistic that 33 Americans are killed by gun violence each in day in America, and that Congress needs to enact common sense gun laws, according to the report.

Pallone joined religious figures and family and friends of victims of gun violence, according to the report. It was part of a bus tour by gun control advocates, including Mayors Against Illegal Guns, that will touch on 25 states under the moniker “No More Names,” according to the report.

As part of the event, speakers read the names of thousands of gun violence victims since the Newtown, Connecticut school shootings, according to the report.

A segment of the crowd opposed tighter restrictions on purchasing guns, but most of the crowd was in favor of tighter gun laws, according to the report.
