Highland Park Fireworks: Parking, Celebration Information For July 3

Donaldson Park will be full of food vendors and activities for kids before the fireworks show at 9:20 p.m. on Sunday, July 3.

HIGHLAND PARK, NJ — It's almost time for the 2022 Fireworks in the Park, which are Sunday night, July 3 in Donaldson Park.

The fireworks show is at 9:20 p.m. and festivities begin at 6.

A number of food vendors will be set up: people can purchase crepes, smoothies, Jamaican fusion tacos, Mr. Softee ice cream, empanadas, funnel cakes and fried Oreos, gyros and kabobs, lemonade blends, and much more. Kosher options are also available.

Activities for kids include face painting, an inflatable obstacle course and bounce house/slide combination, and a kids' vendor (Kidz & Kaboodle) offering "glitter tattoos, slime, sand art, colored hairspray, glow sticks, glow balloons and more for purchase." There will be other activities courtesy of Highland Park library staff and the Imagination Station.

Donaldson Park will be closed to vehicles, and anyone coming to the event can park along borough roads in any legal parking spot. Handicap accessible parking is available; those looking to reach that parking lot should go to the Middlesex County Park Ranger station, at the South Second Avenue entrance to Donaldson Park.

"Due to the gridlock after the fireworks are set off, it is strongly encouraged that you either walk/bike to the park or park away from the park," police said. "Valentine Street will be transformed into a pedestrian walkway and will be closed to all vehicular traffic for approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the fireworks."

The following parking restrictions are in place July 3 from 2-10 p.m.

  • No parking on Valentine Street from S. 1st Avenue to S. 5th Avenue
  • No parking on Riverview Avenue
  • No parking on S. 2nd Avenue from Valentine Street to Donaldson Street
  • No parking on S. 3rd Avenue from Valentine Street to Donaldson Street
  • No parking on Braun Avenue from Valentine Street to Donaldson Street
