MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — On Wednesday, Middlesex County announced six new vaccine sites are now open in the county.

However, New Jersey, like all states, is struggling to keep up with demand for the vaccine. Vaccine production does not currently match demand, and even federal reserves of the vaccine have been exhausted. Gov. Murphy just said Tuesday that the state has now opened two thirds of its vaccine sites, but "all we are missing are the vaccine doses we need," he said.

Supply will continue to be short “for some time,” and Murphy did not specify when it would increase, or how.

The new sites are:

  • East Brunswick Community Arts Center
  • Middlesex County Fire Academy in Sayreville (it was the first site to open in the county; it's been open since the first week of January. However, until today it was only open to police, firefighters and healthcare workers. It is now open to the general public.)
  • Monroe Township Senior Center
  • The Heldrich Hotel and Conference Center in New Brunswick
  • Middlesex County Office of Health Services in Piscataway
  • Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School in Perth Amboy

You still have to register through the state for all those new sites above: https://covidvaccine.nj.gov/ or here: http://www.middlesexcountynj.g...

The sites do not have their own individual sign-up pages.

This is in addition to the vaccine mega-site in Edison that opened last Friday.

These new sites will be open strictly based on vaccine supply to Middlesex County. For any questions or if you cannot register online, call Middlesex County's Call Center at 732-745-3100.

You can only get the vaccine if you are in Category 1a (healthcare workers, police and firefighters) and 1b (people over 65 and those between 16 and 64 with specific medical conditions).

The mega-site at the Edison Expo Center opened Friday. It will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and once New Jersey has enough vaccines, that site can administer up to 2,400 vaccines a day, say Middlesex officials.

Here are all the other vaccine sites in Middlesex County:

Middlesex County is giving out the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, the only two to be approved by the FDA so far. Residents will not have the option to select the vaccine-maker of their choice; vaccines are strictly predicated on supply provided by the federal government, said the county.
