More Than 90 Individuals To Benefit From On-Campus Blood Drive

A collaboration between RWJUH-Blood Services and Scarlet PR leads to great success

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., March 12, 2019 - For the third year in a row, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Blood Services teamed up with Rutgers Scarlet PR to host an on-campus blood drive. The drive took place on Wednesday, February 13th at the Yard on College Avenue.

During the partnership, Rutgers Scarlet PR worked to engage students on campus, while RWJUH-Blood Services handled the logistics of running the blood drive. Together the duo brought in over 60 donors and, by the end of the day, RWJUH Blood Services left with over 50 units of blood.

Prospective donors can expect to see more drives from RWJUH-Blood Services throughout the year. The hospital’s Level I Trauma Center, as well as its emergency room, treat in excess of 95,000 patients each year. In fact, every 15 minutes, a patient at RWJUH in New Brunswick receives a unit of blood, platelets, or fresh frozen plasma. With numbers like that, it is imperative that RWJUH maintains a robust blood supply.

“We are always encouraging people to donate blood. It allows us to treat the patients that come in and out of our doors every day,” said Sally Wells, Business Development Liaison for RWJUH Blood Services. “Through our engagement with the Rutgers community, we can proudly say that over 90 patients at RWJUH will receive life-saving blood transfusions!”
