📰 News we're reading

• New Brunswick Police Searched Flock Database Nearly 1,000 Times in 2026 in City Dominated by Surveillance Cameras (shorenewsnetwork.com) — New Brunswick police ran 903 searches of Flock license plate cameras in 2026, with two sergeants responsible for most of the activity in a city now covered by 160 surveillance cameras. Records show searches largely tied to robberies, weapons, and stolen vehicles, while civil liberties groups question how broadly such interconnected databases can track residents' movements.

• Morrisville Resident Pleads Guilty To Federal Bank Fraud Charges (delawarevalleynews.com) — A New Brunswick resident, Andrew Hooper, is among several people who pleaded guilty in a large federal bank fraud conspiracy involving more than $11 million in stolen checks. Prosecutors say the group deposited stolen Treasury and commercial checks in New Jersey and Pennsylvania using fake business documents, then shared the proceeds. Sentencing for the defendants is scheduled in December.

• Mikie Sherrill's Approval Holds at 44% as More New Jerseyans Say State Heading in Wrong Direction (shorenewsnetwork.com) — A Rutgers–Eagleton Poll released from New Brunswick finds Gov. Mikie Sherrill holding a 44% approval rating nine months into her term, even as 43% of New Jerseyans say the state is on the wrong track. The survey, which sampled 1,004 adults statewide, shows strong partisan splits but relatively steady views of Sherrill's performance and handling of the Caldwell scandal.
