RESA 2015 ENERGY SYMPOSIUM

NJ Board of Public Utilities Commissioner Upendra Chivukula participated in a panel discussion at the RESA Symposium

(HARRISBURG, PA – October 2, 2015) The Retail Energy Supply Association (RESA) held its 2015 Energy Symposium yesterday in Harrisburg, Pa. The event was attended by industry professionals as well as state government officials.

NJ Board of Public Utilities Commissioner Upendra Chivukula participated in the first panel discussion of the day regarding the rise of the retail energy market and what to expect in the future. He focused on the need for retailers to clarify rate structures to customers as well as the need for innovative “smart” technology to drive the industry.

“Energy marketplace competition is quite important in New Jersey, a restructured state since 1999 because competition can provide many value-added services as market differentiators which can benefit the customers.” Chivukula said. “It is also important to ensure consumer education about market forces that can drive prices low, and also ensure the protection of consumers from aggressive marketers who promise a lot and may not keep their promises.”

The Retail Energy Supply Association is a broad group of retail energy suppliers who share the common vision that competitive retail electricity and natural gas markets deliver a more efficient, customer-oriented outcome than the rate-regulated utility structure. Regardless of their business model, all RESA members are dedicated to preserving and promoting competitive energy markets in the public interest.
