Rutgers Holiday Toy Drive Benefits Children in Foster Care

Local children in foster care focus of Rutgers sorority during holiday season.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Middlesex County partnered with Rutgers sorority Delta Kappa Delta for a holiday toy drive. The gifts will go to local children in Middlesex County foster care. The toys were presented December 11th at a holiday wrapping party hosted by Delta Kappa Gamma at Rutgers University. Multiple Greek-life organizations were involved in the wrapping event including Iota Nu Delta, Sigma Sigma Rho, Sigma Lambda Gamma, Omega Phi Chi, Delta Sigma Iota, Delta Sigma Phi and Phi Sigma Rho.

Delta Kappa Gamma is multicultural and service sorority committed to the philanthropic cause of child abuse prevention and awareness. The sorority hopes this event will strengthen their commitment to the local community. Delta Kappa Delta member Neha Shah explained “We realized wanted to step outside of the box, go outside of campus and find something that really speaks volumes to us.”

CASA recruits, screens, trains and provides ongoing supervision to volunteers who are appointed by a judge to speak for a child’s best interests in court. Ultimately, the advocacy of CASA volunteers helps children living in foster care find safe, permanent, loving homes.
