Rutgers Men's Basketball Finishes NIT Season Tip-Off With Loss to Fairleigh Dickinson

The wrestling team scored 30 points in a win over Clarion and two women's baskebtall players were named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll.

The Rutgers University men’s basketball team went 2-2 in the NIT Season Tip-Off following a win over Stillman College and a loss to Fairleigh Dickinson this week.

After winning their opening round game against Canisius and falling to Drexel in the second round of the tournament last week, the Scarlet Knights played consolation games at home on Monday and Tuesday.

Rutgers opened the week with a 116-89 win over Stillman. Junior guard Myles Mack (Paterson) led the way with 23 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals, according to scarletknights.com.

Senior forwards Wally Judge and J.J. Moore were next up with 20 points. Judge had 20 points, 13 rebounds and two assists. Moore had 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

On Tuesday, Rutgers fell to Fairleigh Dickinson, 73-72. Moore had a career-high 26 points, according to espn.com. Junior D’Von Campbell 13 points and Judge had 10.

Rutgers is 4-4 this season. The Scarlet Knights return to the court Dec. 4 when they visit George Washington University.

WRESTLING TEAM SCORES 30: The wrestling team is 3-0 for the third time in four years following its highest point total of the season, according to scarletknights.com.

Rutgers defeated Clarion, 30-12, on Friday. The Scarlet Knights won eight of their 10 bouts.

Freshman Scott DelVecchio (South Plainfield) picked up the first dual meet win of his career with a 15-6 major decision victory over Jonathan Mele at 125 pounds.

Senior Vinnie Dellefave (Toms River) improved to 2-0 this season with a 15-6 major decision win over Sam Sherlock at 133.

Junior Nick Visicaro (Long Branch) picked up his first dual meet win with an 8-2 win over Mike Pavasco at 165 pounds.

Freshman Phil Bakuckas (Hammonton) improved to 3-0 in his college career with an 11-2 major decision win over Ryan Darch at 174 pounds.

Senior Dan Seidenberg (Red Bank) improved to 3-0 this season with a 3-1 win over Dustin Conti at 184.

Sophomore Billy Smith (Wantage) and sophomore Hayden Hrymack (Lincroft) also improved to 3-0.

HONOR ROLL FOR WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM: Sophomore center Rachel Hollivay and freshman guard Tyler Scaife were named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll this week, according to scarletknights.com.

Hollivay average 20 points, nine rebounds and 6.5 blocks in two games for the Scarlet Knights last week. She returned from a concussion suffered earlier this season for back-to-back career highs in points, with 14 in a one-point loss to UMass and 26 in a 69-38 win over Howard. Her 13 rebounds and nine blocks against Howard were also career highs.

Hollivay is averaging 13.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game and shooting 64 percent from the field this season, according to scarletknights.com.

Scaife averaged 10.5 points, three rebounds and four assists in those two games. She tied a career high with 13 points against UMass, and made her first career start against Howard.

Scaife is averaging 9.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and three assists a game this season.

Rutgers is 4-1 this year, with its lone loss coming in the 64-63 loss to UMass.

Over the holiday weekend, Rutgers will compete in the Battle of Brooklyn at the Barclays Center, the home of the Brooklyn Nets. The Scarlet Knights face Louisiana State at 1 p.m. on Friday and either Michigan or Texas Tech on Saturday.
