Rutgers Men's Soccer Team Names 75th Anniversary Team
Fans selected 14 players to represent the program's rich heritage.

Rutges University men’s soccer team fans voted at scarletknights.com throughout the season, and 14 players have been selected to represent the program’s 75th anniversary team, the University announced.
"There was a tremendous response from Rutgers fans on which Scarlet Knights they thought should symbolize the 75 years of history of this program.,” head coach Dan Donigan said. “Each one of these guys have built the foundation that certainly each and every men's soccer player that comes to Rutgers strives to build upon. I have had the honor of playing with or working with a number of these individuals and they were most certainly not only some of the best soccer players at Rutgers, but also the country."
The Scarlet Knights have a rich tradition. Of note, Rutgers played in the national championship game following the 1990 season, and made it to the NCAA semifinals in 1989 and 1994.

The Scarlet Knights are 5-9-2 with one game left this season. As of Friday, Rutgers is in seventh place in the American Athletic Conference. The conference tournament takes place Nov. 8-17.
The following players were named to the 75th anniversary team, with information for each player available at scarletknights.com:

BILL ANDRACKI (1990-91): This goalie secured 23 shutouts and made 171 saves in his career.
ART BRINKMANN (1952-55): The program's first all-American holds the school record for goals in a game with six, and was an alternate for the U.S. Olympic team.
JON CONWAY (1996-98): The goalie had a 0.88 goals against average, who was drafted by the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2000 MLS SuperDraft.
LINO DICUOLLO (1988-91): He is third on the career points list with 122, third in goals with 48 and fourth in assists with 26.
BOBBY JOE ESPOSITO (1983-86): An academic all-American who is No. 2 all-time for goals with 50. He played six years of professional soccer in the MISL and the NPSL.
DAVID GRIMALDI (1973-77): The first Rutgers player ever drafted when he was drafted by the NASL's Dallas Tornadoes in the first round of the 1977 draft. He also played on the 1976 U.S. Olympic team.
ALEXI LALAS (1988-91): A member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, Lalas is the only Scarlet Knight ever named a three-time all-American and helped guide Rutgers to its first ever No. 1 ranking.
PEDRO LOPES (1990-94): He spearheaded a defense that allowed just 10 goals in three years, and played professionally for the New Jersey Imperials.
DAVE MASUR (1982-84): A two-time all-American and three-year captain, he finished eighth all-time in assists and 13th in points scored for Rutgers.
DAVE MUELLER (1987-90): He is No. 1 on the all-time assists list with 28, and is regarding as Rutgers' best center midfielders ever.
STEVE RAMMEL (1989-90): He appeared in back-to-back Final Fours and was the first MLS player to ever record a hat trick while playing for D.C. United.
HERB SCHMIDT (1959-61): The first two-time all-American in Rutgers history and scored 90 goals in his career.
PETER VERMES (1985-87):He ranks seventh in all-time points (89), goals scored (35), 10th in assists (19) and second in game-winning goals (15). He was drafted by the New York/New Jersey Metrostars in the inaugural MLS Draft in 1996, and played in the league for seven years.
JEFF ZAUN (1989-93): He was the Atlantic 10 Freshman of the Year, and went on to earn all-American and National Player of the Year honors. He played four years in MLS for the Metrostars and the Chicago Fire.
