How Far Do You Go?

How far do you go if you’re texting while driving? It might be farther than you think and that’s what makes it dangerous.

Recently, Plymouth Rock released the 2016 New Jersey Distracted Driving Study, which indicates texting while driving is the top safety concern on Garden State roads. Five seconds is the average time your eyes are off the road when you text and drive.

55 mph x 5,280 (feet in one mile) = 290,400 feet/hour

290,400/60 (minutes per hour) = 4,840 feet/minute

4,840/60 (seconds per minute) = 80.6 feet/second

There are 300 feet in a football field. At 55 mph, you travel 403 feet in five seconds. At 80 mph, you travel nearly two football fields in five seconds. Do the math. It’s scary. Fight distracted driving by staying focused on the road 100% of the time you’re behind the wheel.
