Three-Alarm Garbage Fire Underway In New Brunswick
A waste-transfer facility is on fire in New Brunswick, at the same time a massive five-alarm garbage fire is underway nearby in Elizabeth.
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, there is a three-alarm fire underway in New Brunswick, said police and the local fire department.
The fire is in a waste-transfer facility on the 900 block of Jersey Avenue, said the New Brunswick Fire Department, which is now requesting a third call for back-up.
Going on at the exact same time Tuesday afternoon is a massive fire in a waste-transfer facility in Elizabeth. That fire has risen to five-alarm status. Smoke from both fires can be seen for miles around.

Jersey Avenue is closed in both directions from How Lane to Van Dyke Avenue due to the fire. Please avoid the area, said police.
