A Novel Destination - Summer Reading at the New Milford Public Library
Summer Reading and programs at the New Milford Public Library.
Summer time is just around the corner and the library is gearing up for our Summer Reading Programs. You may have seen Marian Maharaj and me in our colorful “One World Many Stories” T-shirts at the High School’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. Marian and I were there giving away Beach Balls and Silly Bandz with Mary Mullins from The Friends of the Library to help spread the word about the library’s Summer Reading Programs.
The library is offering so many fun activities for everyone from infants to adults this summer. We will have our usual Story Times and Tot Times plus a Bedtime Story Time; crafts; a Teen Book Group; movies every Friday afternoon; and for the first time a Summer Reading Program for Adults!
Miss Mary in the Children’s Room has planned her Summer Reading activities around the theme “One World, Many Stories.” Besides all the fun activities to choose from, there is the exciting Summer Reading Club for preschoolers to Middle Schoolers, where you can win prizes and get a certificate just for reading. Miss Mary’s programs start in July, so stop by the library for more details and to pick up a schedule.

A lively Book to Movie Discussion Group is planned for teens in grades 6 to 8. Read the book one week and see the move the next! “Hoot” by Carl Hiaassen; “Holes” by Louis Sachar; and “Inkheart” By Cornelia Funke are the Books/Movies to be discussed. Registration begins June 20th.
And why should the kids have all the fun? This summer we will be offering a Summer Reading activity for Adults, “Novel Destinations.” This is the easiest book club you’ve ever joined. For every book you read, you get a free raffle ticket for a weekly drawing to win 2 free DVD rentals. The more you read the more chances you get. Simple and fun, this program will begin in July and end Labor Day weekend.
