Deal To Relocate New Milford ShopRite, Build High School Sports Fields Complete

The 13.6-acre tract of land has been undeveloped for years.

NEW MILFORD, NJ — A deal to develop a 13-acre tract of land on Main Street for a new ShopRite and high school athletic fields has been completed.

Inserra Supermarkets Inc. will construct a ShopRite with a bank branch on part of the the property. Inserra's current New Milford store at 841 River Road has been designated for redevelopment. Affordable housing units will be constructed there once the new store opens.

New athletic fields for New Milford High School will be built on another part of the land.

The 13.6 acres of land is on Main Street and surrounded by River Road and Madison Avenue. It was purchased by New Milford Redevelopment Associates, a subsidiary of S. Hekemian & Co. Inc.; Suez Water North America sold the land. NAI James E. Hanson, a commercial real estate firm negotiated the transaction.

The sale marks the completion of a multi-year approval process that included compromises from the buyer, seller and the borough. The site provides access to the Oradell and River Edge stops on the New Jersey Transit Pascack Valley Line.

Andrew Somple and Greg James represented Suez Water.

"This deal marks the next chapter for this once undevelopable tract of land," Somple said in a statement.
