Department of Environmental Protection Creates Page with Black Bear Info, Facts

The Department of Environmental Protection has created a special page linking to the Division of Fish and Wildlife’s “Know the Bear Facts” web site as well as news releases pertaining to black bears.

This comes just days after a Rutgers University student was killed by a bear as he hiked with friends in West Milford.

The page offers a wealth of information about the management efforts involving bears, statistics – including incident complaints and harvest numbers – the history of black bears in New Jersey, and tips on avoiding conflicts with bears.
