Drunken Teen Bites New MIlford Cop During Confrontation: Police

NEW MILFORD, NJ — A police officer was bitten by a drunk teen who refused to leave an apartment Saturday, authorities said.

Police responded to a Boulevard apartment just before 4 a.m. on a report of someone who was intoxicated and refused to leave, said Detective Lt. Kevin Van Saders.

Lt. Brian Clancy and Officer Michael Lafrano arrived and Melissa Oliveira, 18, of Allendale, refused to leave and became "verbally combative" with them, Van Saders said.

Oliveira kicked the officers when they tried to take her into custody; she was restrained and escorted out, the lieutenant said.

When police tried placing Oliveira into a patrol car she became "physically combative" and bit Clancy on the arm, injuring him, Van Saders said.

Oliveira was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. She was taken to New Bridge Landing Medical Center and turned over to hospital staff with a court date, Van Saders said.
