“The safety of our local communities is paramount, and no one understands this more than the brave men and women in New Jersey’s firehouses,” Booker said in a statement. "I fought for these federal investments in training and the latest equipment to not only help keep our families safe, but to ensure the safety of our first responders while letting them know they will never stand alone."

The Federal Emergency Management Agency administers the grant program. New Jersey fire departments have received nearly $163 million in grants since the program was established in 2001.
