A New Milford man claimed he was severely injured after tripping over a Christmas tree left on the sidewalk.

NEW MILFORD, NJ — A lawsuit filed by borough man who tripped over a Christmas tree has been named one of the most ridiculous lawsuits of the year.
The U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform Thursday released it annual list of the Top 10 Most Ridiculous Lawsuits of 2017.
Kyu Taik Chung filed the suit Jan. 20 in Bergen County Superior Court. Chung claims that the 1170 Apartment Corporation, "recklessly, carelessly and/or negligently" allowed the tree to remain on the Linwood Avenue property when he was injured in March 2015.

Chung suffered "severe and permanent injuries; was disabled and disfigured; has suffered and will continue to suffer great pain and torment, both mental and physical," Albert H. Wunsch III, Chung's attorney, claims in the suit. Patch could not obtain a copy of the lawsuit.
Other lawsuits that made the list include one filed by a woman who claimed she was "deceived" by Jelly Belly, according to the ILR. Jessica Gomez claimed the company's Sport Beans contain more sugar than she thought when she ate them.

A man sued Uber, claiming the company ruined his marriage. He claimed that once he logged in to Uber on his wife's phone, the app continued to notify her of his pick-ups and drop-offs, the ILR reported. Whatever his wife saw in those notifications allegedly motivated her to file for divorce.
“Lawsuits like these may be a dream come true for late night comedians, but the toll that abusive litigation takes on our society is no joke,” ILR President Lisa A. Rickard said in a press release.
