New Milford Map Preservation Project Honored With County Award

The map chronicles the route from the Palisades to Paterson.

NEW MILFORD, N.J. – A project to preserve a 19th century map showing the journey from Paterson to the Palisades was awarded a Bergen County Historic Preservation Award, the county announced.

The map was discovered in the 1960s in the historic Demarest House. It is now displayed in the borough library. The story of the map’s discovery, research into its history, its restoration, and the educational brochure that tells its story was an educational preservation project.

Since 1982, more than 280 Historic Preservation Awards have been presented to residents, organizations, and business for their efforts to preserve and restore Bergen County’s historic houses, schools, places of worship, and other sites.
