New Milford Police Remind Residents Of New Jersey E-Bike Law
The new law classifies electric bicycles into three categories.
NEW MILFORD, NJ — The Borough of New Milford Police Department is reminding residents about New Jersey's updated e-bike regulations, which take effect on July 19.
The new law classifies electric bicycles into three categories, each with different licensing, registration and equipment requirements.
Tier 1: Low-Speed E-Bikes:
Pedal-assist bicycles with a top speed of 20 mph require an e-bike license and license plate. Riders must be at least 15 years old, helmets are required for all riders, and insurance is not required.
