Woman Narrowly Escapes Getting Hit By Train After Car Gets Stuck: Police

Yvette Morel, 23, got her car stuck in a ditch alongside railroad tracks, but a good Samaritan helped her escape.

A woman was nearly struck by a train after her car got stuck in a ditch and a good Samaritan helped her escape, police said.

Yvette Morel, 23, was traveling on West Clinton Avenue in Bergenfield when her 2005 Honda Civic got stuck in a gravel ditch alongside the railroad tracks on West Clinton Avenue, police said.

Morel tried to drive out of the ditch, but could not; a driver behind her noticed a train was coming, quickly got out of his vehicle and told Morel to get out of her car, police said.

Morel exited the vehicle and the train stuck the Civic's driver's side bumper, causing it to spin around, police said. The car suffered extensive damage.

No one was injured and a CSX representative responded to the scene, officials said. The Civic was towed away.
