The New Providence Middle School Music Department performed in the Music In The Parks festival in Pennsylvania on Friday, June 6, 2011. The groups, comprised of 135 middle school students in seventh and eighth grades, earned one excellent and four superior ratings after performing in Kutztown University’s Georgian Room and at Fleetwood High School. The groups included the Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Edward Fleischman, the Concert Band and Jazz Band, under the direction of Mr. Gerald Polci, and the Chorus and the Girl’s Ensemble, under the direction of Ms. Catherine Flynn. Eighth grade students representing each ensemble accepted the trophies at an awards ceremony at Dorney Park. At the conclusion of the awards ceremony, the entire music department was presented with the coveted Esprit de Corps, an award given to the school that best demonstrates the character and class associated with the highest level of musical professionalism, both on and off stage.
