Students of Allen W. Roberts Elementary support Bridges of Summt

On Friday, May 18th the students of AWR elementary school in New Providence participated in a community service program with Bridges.  The Bridges organization of Summit delivers over 140,000 breakfast bags and lunches each year plus toiletries to the less fortunate.  Together with their buddy classes, students created over 480 Breakfast Bags and over 90 Toiletry Kits for homeless individuals in Newark, Irvington and New York City.  This program was included as part of the AWR PRIDEDAY (formerly Field Day) where students participated in different activities such as relay races and other organized games with their buddies whom they havebeen mentoring during the entire school year. The breakfast & toiletry bags will be delivered in time for the Memorial Day weekend.  Bridges is so grateful for these donations because when schools are closed, homeless children do not get a free breakfast.  With donations like the ones from AWR elementary, children will now get a nutritional breakfast this holiday weekend.Mrs. Hansen, AWR Principal, said "The students really enjoyed being a part of this great cause and spending time with their "buddies".  She further commented; “Our school is a community!  Without the help of the AWR PTA, staff and parent volunteers, these types of community service projects would not be a success.
