Arduous Ultramarathon To Raise Money For Clean Water
MissionCleanWater is hosting the ultramarathon, in which participants "push, pull, carry, and drag" 90 pounds of water all day.
From MissionCleanWater: On June 29th, James Leitner will wake up before the sun is up to begin a strength focused ultramarathon called The Last Mile. It is designed to symbolize all the forms of transporting water. For 24 hours, he will push, pull, carry, and drag 10 gallons of water (90lbs) in a 5-stage event with the goal of raising enough donations to provide 1,500 people with clean water in Uganda. If you would like to show your support for James, you can visit him by going to 1 Connell Dr Berkeley Heights, NJ 07922. He will be constantly running that one road.
From walking across the United States, completing 100 mile events, and starting MissionCleanWater, James has taken a unique approach to helping communities without clean water. He said, “Story telling has to be meaningful, ethical, and fair to who we work with. It’s better to show the fun our project communities have rather than the hard times they experience. I prefer to show myself dirty, exhausted, and simulating the hard times they face.”
James Leitner has started MissionCleanWater, a 501c3 charitable organization working to provide clean water and sanitation to underserved communities. They have developed a wide network of technical and community organizer professionals ready to help provide clean water. The Last Mile’s goal is to finish funding their first project which will give 1,500 people clean water for a lifetime. Their efforts have been featured on USA Today, Live with Kelly and Ryan, and multiple local news organizations.
