Berkeley Heights has received another grant award for the continued restoration and rehabilitation work at the historic Littel Lord Farmstead.

The grant award, in the amount of $60,000, was awarded by the New Jersey Historic Trust. More than $14 million was awarded to 69 projects across the state for preservation planning, heritage tourism and capital projects and special initiatives in this year's grant cycle. The Garden State Preservation Trust will authorize the awards at its October meeting. The Legislature and Governor must approve the appropriation before the grant funds can be dispersed. Nineteen of the grants will help fund preservation planning projects such as condition assessments, historic structure reports, archaeological investigations, and construction documents. Five grants will help fund heritage tourism initiatives to improve the visitor experience at historic sites. Forty-four grants will fund capital preservation projects on sites listed in the New Jersey Register of Historic Places (the category under which the Littel Lord Farmstead restoration falls under).
The grant was submitted by former Councilwoman Susan Poage, who is a member of the Grants Committee. The money will go in the Littel Lord Trust, the funds of which are only used for the property's rehabilitation efforts and property maintenance.
