Fire Engulfs Union County Home, Displaces Residents, Police Say

LINDEN, NJ — A late-night fire in Linden left one home uninhabitable, damaged two neighboring residences and displaced several residents, according to police.

Police and firefighters responded to Jackson Avenue at approximately 11:40 p.m. Monday after receiving reports of a structure fire.

When emergency crews arrived, they found a single-family home engulfed in flames, with fire visible from all sides of the residence, the Linden Police Department said.

Everyone inside the home was able to evacuate safely before firefighters brought the blaze under control. As a precaution, residents of neighboring homes were also evacuated.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters from Linden, assisted by mutual aid departments from across Union County, battled the two-alarm fire for more than an hour before bringing it under control, police said.

The home where the fire started was declared uninhabitable. Two neighboring homes also sustained damage.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
