Bowling Team Edged in Season Opener, Look Ahead to New Week

2009 Sectional champions led by Hintze and Wageman

Coming off a season where he saw his team win a sectional championship and graduating three starters from that team, Coach John Crane knows this is going to be a challenging year for his Governor Livingston bowlers. Last Wednesday was one of those challenging nights as they lost to a very talented Union team, 2-1.

"We are very young this year and not as deep as we are used to" says Crane. "In bowling, depth and consistency is the key. We only start two upperclassmen -- Jim Hintze and Jen Wageman."

Both Wageman and Hintze had strong efforts Wednesday, especially in the second game, which Governor Livingston was able to take by two pins.

Wageman is coming off a 3rd-place finish in the county last year, but is unfortunately fighting a back injury.  Although she has to frequently receive therapy on her back, Jen does not use that as an excuse.

" I bowled pretty good today. The second game was my best", says Wageman. "I do need to be a little more consistent."

Meanwhile, Jim Hintze feels that he is bowling better than ever this season.

"I had a pretty strong series today especially the third game", says Hintze. "I'm hoping to finish high in conference, counties and states".

Even though the team is young, Coach Crane feels that some of his bowlers can be successful individually.

"Including Jen & Jim we have a couple of bowlers who can finish high in the post season tournaments."

Governor Livingston will be back in action this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Jersey Lanes against Scotch Plains Fanwood High School.
