Broadway Stars "Light Up" Foundation Benefit In South Orange

Stars of the Great White Way Deliver Stellar Sold-Out Performance at SOPAC to Benefit Summit Medical Group Foundation's Cancer Care Project

Some of Broadway’s brightest stars literally “rocked” the house at the South Orange Performing Arts Center last Monday, November 18th, as they took the stage to raise money for Summit Medical Group Foundation’s Cancer Comfort Project. The successful sold-out performance of “Broadway Rocks Cancer,” which was presented by Investors Bank, will help fund a variety of services that provide comfort, care and compassion to individuals and their families facing cancer. The evening also honored Linda Wacks and the Jeffrey Frank Wacks Memorial Fund for their establishment and continued support of SMGF’s “Music in the Atrium” program.

The Memorial Fund was established in 1996 by Linda and Ed Wacks in honor of their son Jeffrey (an avid musician), who lost his battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after an eight-year battle. Linda was an early proponent and passionate advocate of music therapy; she cites the countless studies that demonstrate the positive impact music has on patients with cancer, including lowered heart rates, reduced pain and increased feelings of well-being.

Summit Medical Group Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, was established in 2013 by the Summit Medical Group (SMG). The Foundation is committed to improving access to healthcare for the underserved in our communities; educating and inspiring future healthcare providers; and promoting the courage, confidence and emotional well-being of individuals and their families facing cancer.
