New Providence BioBlitz 2026 Seeks Resident Plant Hunters; Free Info Session May 27
Free community science project uses iNaturalist app to document borough plants and identify invasive species.
NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - New Providence is inviting residents of all ages to help document and protect the borough's local plant life through a community science project launching this spring in partnership with Rutgers University Environmental Stewards and the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station.
The 2026 NP BioBlitz will use the iNaturalist app — a free mobile tool that identifies plants and animals through photos and connects users with a global community of naturalists and scientists — to build a shared database of New Providence's local ecosystem. The data will be used to identify invasive plants in borough parks that can be replaced with native species to better support local wildlife.
Residents can learn how to participate at a free information session Wednesday, May 27, at 7 p.m. in the Recreation Art Room.
