Contested Primary Set For Berkeley Heights Mayor, Council

Mayor Robert Woodruff and council are being challenged by seven Republican candidates.

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ — The Republican primary election in Berkeley Heights is contested as seven candidates are fighting for their party's nomination in the June primary election.

Incumbent Republican Mayor Robert Woodruff, 26 Forest Ave., is running for another term. He is being challenged by Republican Edward Tom Maciejewski, 40 Ralph Dr. A lone Democrat Angie Devanney, 59 Cornell Ave., is also running against Woodruff in an uncontested primary.

There is also a contested race for the two council seats on the Republican side with five candidates running.

Republican Michael D'Aquila, of 85 Whitney Dr., was the only incumbent on the ticket. Republican challengers include Michelle Greco, 90 Greenbriar Dr.; Christopher J. Rinaldi, 74 Cromwell Ct.; Diana Mara, 328 Emerson Ln.; and Dmitriy Agafonov, 25 Ford Pl.

Two Democrats are also vying for the council seats in the uncontested primary who include: Stephen H. Yellin, 130 Dogwood Ln. and Alvaro Medeiros, 21 Twin Falls Rd.
