Event Description:

Natan Sharansky became the symbol of the struggle for the right of Soviet Jews to immigrate from the Former Soviet Union to Israel. Arrested and imprisoned on false charges, he was released on February 11, 1986, after nine years of imprisonment, arriving in Jerusalem on that very day. He is currently chairman of the Executive of the Jewish Agency for Israel.
