Former Heights Resident Charles Robert Isleib Dies After Long illness

Veteran of World War II graduated from Michigan.

 

After a long illness, long-time Berkeley Heights resident Charles
Robert Isleib died peacefully on January 27, 2012 at his residence at
St. Augustine Plantation in Tallahassee, Florida , surrounded by his
beloved family and caregivers.

His children are Susan Isleib Cerulean (Jeff Chanton); Roberta Ann
Isleib (John Brady); Douglas Robert Isleib (Cindy); and Martha Jean
Isleib.  He loved and was beloved by his grandchildren and
stepchildren.

Bob was born in Glen Rock, New Jersey on January 31, 1923 to Alice
May Hunziker Isleib and Charles W. Isleib.  His brother Donald Isleib
was born four years later and was his most faithful confidante and
friend throughout his life.

He was predeceased his wives, Janet Burdette Isleib (mother of his
children), Elise Lawton Isleib ( Tallahassee ) and Mary Jane Grambor
Isleib( Manahawkin , N.J. ).

Bob was a proud veteran of World War II where he served in the US
Army 1057th Port Construction and Repair Group in France . After the
war, he graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in
Metallurgical Engineering. His working career was at the International
Nickel Company in New York City . He wrote the history of "The West
Point Foundry & the Parrott Gun." He and his family resided in
Berkeley Heights for many years, where he served on the Board of
Education, worked with the Boy Scouts and the Little League, and was a
founding member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Bob’s family and quality of life was enhanced during his last four
years in Tallahassee by deeply compassionate and kind caregivers.

The Isleib family will welcome friends to a memorial service and a
reception on January 31, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at the home of Susan
Cerulean and Jeff Chanton in Tallahassee. The Reverend Candace
McKibben will officiate, music by Velma Frye and Jim Isleib. He will
be buried on February 1, 2012 at Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery
in Gainesville , Florida . In lieu of flowers, the family would
appreciate donations to Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee, Florida, who
cared so tenderly for Dad during his last years.
