
With last year's Union County championship loss hanging over their heads, members of the Governor Livingston softball team had April 8 circled on their calendar.
That's because the team that beat them -- Cranford -- would be the opponent, and while this was just an early-season tussle, the Lady Highlanders had been waiting almost year to send a message.
And that they did. Behind a six-hitter from pitcher Dani Todaro, GL held the county's top-rated team to just three runs, while rolling to a convincing 8-3 victory on a chilly, rainy afternoon in Cranford.

With GL ranked second in the Star-Ledger county poll, a change at the top seems imminent, which for now at least, can set the tone for the next few weeks of the season.
Offensively, the wealth was spread around, with Stephanie Cataldo pacing the attack with a three-hit day, while teammate Jenna Kulbeck picked up a pair of hits to go with two RBI's.

GL followed up their convincing 7-1 win versus Elizabeth with Friday's impressive finish, giving them a 3-0 start to the new season.
Four other players punched in runs for the Highlanders.
GL will host Caldwell at 12:00 p.m. today before facing Johnson at home on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
