Gov. Livingston Girls Basketball Team Rolls Into County Finals

Polimeni's 20 point effort leads Highlanders past Johnson.

From the outset of the season, the Gov. Livingston girls' basketball team has had one goal in the mind -- to win a county championship.

Thanks to their impressive 21-6 fourth-quarter run, GL  ran away to a 47-37 victory in Thursday night's quarterfinal matchup versus New Providence. The Lady Highlanders are one victory away from the Union County Tournament championship. 

Alyssa Polimeni led the onslaught with a game-high 20 points, including four three-pointers. Sam Dowling added 11 points, while Becca Johnson and Mallory George completed the balanced attack with seven points apiece.

This is the first UCT Final for the girls' basketball team since 1991, when the Highlanders lost to Union Catholic. The Highlanders aim for their first UCT title in the 36 year history of the vent.

This is the 3rd time GL has beaten the Lady Pioneers this season.

GL improves to 17-4 on the season.

The championship game will take place Sunday at Kean University at 5:00 p.m.
